This will be the first of many letters to help keep everyone informed about issues we are
working on behind the scenes. Your help will be imperative to keep our area open to all
users.
Lots of new information on the Kapka Butte / Dutchman sno-park issue. You may have seen letters from OSSA stating
that there are Rumors Abound about this issue. After many attempts to get copies of these rumor letters, we still have
not seen anything from OSSA or received any Rumor letters from the snowmobiling public.
Let us put our focus on the positive side of this issue and push hard with letters written to our politicians and Carbon
Copied to the Forest Service about our dislike of the Kapka Butte Project in total.
The only plan that makes any since at all is to abandon the Kapka Butte Project and expand Dutchman Sno-Park.
There will be very little impact on the environment at Dutchman because all the trees are already gone. At Kapka
Butte they will have to remove hundreds of trees and cut new access into the parking area. This is not wise use of
public lands.
Early on The Board of directors of Moon Country agreed to support Kapka as long as it did not include any changes to
Dutchman sno-park. Sadly the Forest Service does not want to listen to the snowmobilers and seem to be listening to
the back country skiers. They are proposing to close Dutchman from December 1st to March 31st just to pacify what
they claim is 10% of the public who do not want to share with snowmobilers.
There is a NEW Environmental Impact Statement and scoping letter coming out any day. (10/31/2008) We will see if
the FS still plans on discriminating against the snowmobilers with the Dutchman Closure,
Until the EIS is published it is still essential for all recreational enthusiasts to submit comments to the Forest Service,
local, county and state/federal officials, the tourist industry supporting the continued "Multi-Use" scenario of this area.
The "Anti-Access" groups will be doing the same so there MUST be an onslaught of support to counter any of the
claims for no access they make.
